The new sharing economy created by sharing sites like Uber, Airbnb, Guesty and Quid Pro have presented us with a full set of etiquette quandaries related to sharing someone’s house, car or facilities.
Are you a bin stuffer?
One of the biggest problems is what to do with the bin in a shared location like a communal kitchen or bathroom– should you stuff it absolutely full until the contents are about the spill out on to the floor, or should you insist on emptying the bin when it is three quarters full? It seems the question has divided the nation much like the “love it or hate it” question of Marmite!
Another etiquette minefield…..cigarettes – what should you do when someone lights up in your Uber cab? What if your airbnb guest assumes they can smoke in a communal area? Do you “intervene” and squash that ciggy, or do you keep a stiff upper lip about it on the grounds that you shouldn’t really get physical when enforcing your airbnb rules?
The debates continue….have you got an example of an etiquette quandary you have encountered while sharing your facilities on airbnb, or othering sharing economy sites?
